WPQ announces Technical Workshops for Coaches and Referees

Published Tue 26 Jul 2022

Referees and Coaches are the backbone to any sport and they are vital to sporting success at all levels. Referees and Coaches play a crucial role in ensuring water polo is an enjoyable experience for everyone, as well as laying the foundation for the development of better players.

For some time there has been a lack of formalised education or development courses outside of the LearningPool education frameworks for referees and coaches, however these upcoming technical Workshops are a perfect way to promote the learning and development of our key volunteers!

The referees will be educated by Olympic Referee Nicola Johnson, FINA Referee Ash Kaesler and current AWL Referees Matt Singer and Spencer Mitchell. Our coaches will be educated by AWL Men’s Coach and former Olympian Aleks Osadchuk with guest appearances (for the development/advanced workshop) by Barry Dancer – famed Hockeyroos coach.

These workshops perfect for referees and coaches who are looking to develop or refresh their technical skills. Referees and coaches will participate in both theory learning in a classroom-style format as well as practical pool-side learning.

These workshops will equip individuals with contemporary water polo knowledge, an understanding of technical skills and their application, teach leadership and communication techniques, develop soft skills outside of the laws of the game and connect Referees and coaches from all corners of Queensland.
