Water Polo Queensland is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants in our sport. Events listed on this page have been officially sanctioned by the governing body, confirming they meet our rigorous standards for safety, organisation, and compliance.

Participation in these events ensures members are covered under the Water Polo Australia insurance program, which includes public liability, personal accident, and professional indemnity coverage.

Q1: What is a WPQ-sanctioned event?

A WPQ-sanctioned event is a water polo competition or activity that has been officially approved by Water Polo Queensland. These events meet specific standards for safety, governance, and participant welfare.

Q2: Why should I participate in a sanctioned event?

Sanctioned events ensure you are covered under the Water Polo Australia insurance program, provide assurance of event quality, and confirm alignment with national safety and conduct standards.

Q3: How do I know if an event is sanctioned by WPQ?

All sanctioned events are listed on this official webpage. Look for the “WPQ Sanctioned” badge or statement in event promotions or confirm with the WPQ office.

Q4: What types of insurance are included in sanctioned events?

Participants in sanctioned events are covered for public liability, personal accident, and professional indemnity through Water Polo Australia’s national insurance scheme.

Q5: Can a school or club run an event without WPQ sanctioning?

Yes, but such events are not recognised by WPQ, and participants may not be covered under Water Polo Australia insurance. We strongly recommend sanctioning to ensure member protection.

Q6: How can my club apply to have an event sanctioned?

Visit the Competitions & Events Sanctioning Policy page to download the application form and view the criteria. Submit the completed form to WPQ for review.

Q7: How long does it take to get an event sanctioned?

We recommend submitting your application at least 4–6 weeks before the event date to allow adequate time for review and approval.

Q8: Does sanctioning apply to training programs or only competitions?

Sanctioning can apply to competitions, training camps, development programs, and other organised water polo activities where member protection and oversight are required.
