AUSTRALIA’S GOLD COAST TO HOST WATER POLO QUEENSLAND STATE TITLES IN 2021 & 2023

Water Polo Queenland’s (WPQ) flagship event, the State Titles will be hosted by Australia’s Gold Coast in 2021 and 2023 thanks to a new two year event partnership with Major Events Gold Coast.

The WPQ State Titles is the marquee event for Water Polo Queensland and will be held from 19 – 25 January, 2021 at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games venue and state of the art, FINA accredited Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Southport. This magnificent facility boasts two Olympic standard pools as well as a dive pool and is an ideal venue for major water polo events as it can accommodate five fields of play.

This six day event will be delivered as two sessions with the Boys and Girls 12&U and 16&U event being held from 19-21 January and the Boys and Girls 14&U and 18&U and Men’s & Women’s Opens events schedule from 23-25 January.

The event will attract over 1800 participants including players, coaches, managers, referees, and officials and over 1000 spectators from right across Queensland and from as far west as Toowoomba, Cairns and Townsville in the north and all areas in between such as Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast and of course Brisbane.

Water Polo Queensland CEO Mel Woosnam,said “our organisation is thrilled to be partnering with Major Events Gold Coast and excited to have Australia’s Gold Coast as the host of this event in 2021 & 2023. The Gold Coast is a strong area for water polo, with a long and proud history and we are looking forward to bringing our marquee State event to the Gold Coast and contining to grow and develop the sport as we lead into 2021 and the Tokyo Olympics”.

Mayor Tom Tate, City of Gold Coast, said “it is exciting to see our sports and events calendar expanding, with this water polo carnival a fantastic addition to the mix. Post the GC2018 Games, we have a great story to tell so far as our sporting infrastructure, and our capacity to deliver significant events like the State Titles. Around 1600 competitors, and their support staff and families, will be here in 2021 and 2023. This is post-Games legacy in action and I wish everyone s uccess with the programs”, said Mayor Tom Tate.

This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase this amazing sport to the local Gold Coast community. We offer programs and social competitions for juniors and seniors that focus on fun and enjoyment. There is a lot of support for water polo on the Gold Coast and we are looking to expand our competitions, programs and school engagement in 2021 and beyond ”.
