Law & Compliance Officer Board Position EOI

The WPQ Board are seeking applications to fill the casual vacancy of the Law & Compliance Officer Position.

An ideal law and compliance board member should possess:

  1. Legal expertise: The candidate should have a strong legal background and deep understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to non-for-profit organisations. This includes knowledge of corporate law, compliance regulations, risk management, and governance principles.
  2. Experience in compliance: Ideally, the candidate should have significant experience in the field of compliance. This includes a track record of designing and implementing effective compliance programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing risk in complex business environments.
  3. Ethical integrity: Integrity and ethical conduct are crucial for a board member. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to ethical behaviour, transparency, and accountability. They should be able to make unbiased decisions in the best interest of the organization and its stakeholders.
  4. Communication and interpersonal skills: Effective communication skills are essential for a board member to collaborate with other board members, executive management, and external stakeholders. They should be able to articulate legal and compliance matters clearly, ask probing questions, and foster a culture of compliance within the organization.
  5. Board experience: Previous board experience, particularly on law and compliance committees or in a similar governance role, is advantageous. It demonstrates familiarity with board processes, corporate governance, and the responsibilities of a board member.
  6. Passion for Water Polo: The ideal candidate should have a genuine passion for the sport of water polo and a deep understanding of its principles, rules, and development. This enthusiasm will drive their commitment to the organization and its mission.

In accepting their positions, board members undertake to provide sound governance and effective leadership to the organisation by ensuring that the organisation has:

  1. Governance and Oversight: Law board members are responsible for providing strategic direction and governance to the organization. This includes setting policies, making important decisions, and overseeing the overall operations of the organization.
  2. Legal Compliance: Board members have a duty to ensure that the organization operates within the bounds of the law. They must stay informed about relevant legal and regulatory requirements and ensure that the organization complies with them.
  3. Risk Management: Board members are responsible for identifying and managing risks that may affect the organization. They should work to minimize legal and regulatory risks, as well as reputational risks that could impact the organization's mission and stakeholders.
  4. Strategic Planning: Board members play a key role in developing and implementing the organization's strategic plan. This involves setting long-term goals, defining the mission and vision, and evaluating the organization's progress towards achieving its objectives.
