Published Tue 06 Apr 2021

Dear Member Associations, Clubs and Key Stakeholders,

On behalf of the Board of Water Polo Queensland (WPQ), we would like to advise that Heather Belshaw has stepped down from her role as Secretary on the WPQ Board due to personal and work commitments. Heather joined the Board in November 2018 originally as Competitions Officer in a role she held until the 2020 AGM where she was elected as Secretary. Heather has made a valuable contribution to WPQ during her time on the Board to ensure the competitions and events portfolio has been managed and delivered successfully as well as making a strong contribution to the review and development of a number of key policies and procedures as well as taking minutes for Board and Annual General meetings of the Association.

On behalf of the WPQ Board and Staff, we extend our thanks and appreciation to Heather for the wonderful contribution she has made and wish her all the very best for the future.

As a result of Heather’s resignation, this now leaves a casual vacancy on the WPQ Board for the position of Secretary. The Board of WPQ wish to follow an open, fair and transparent process to identify a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill this role. WPQ is now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from interested people to fill the casual vacancy of Secretary which includes but is not limited to:

  • calling meetings of the Association, including preparing notices of meeting and of the business to be conducted at the meeting in consultation with the President and CEO of the Association;
  • taking minutes of each meeting and circulating these promptly after each meeting for review and approval;
  • in conjunction with the CEO, keeping copies of all correspondence and other documents relating to the Association;
  • in conjunction with the WPQ Office Manager, maintaining a register of members of the Association;
  • carrying out the role efficiently and to a high standard and in a manner that promotes confidence in the Association’s leadership within the water polo community;
  • supporting the President, Management Committee and CEO to ensure WPQ continues to fulfil its governance role by driving the performance of WPQ, promoting and advancing the success of the sport of water polo in Queensland and fostering relationships with members, affiliates and key stakeholders.

Please Note: This position is a two (2) year appointment and will come up for renewal at the 2022 WPQ AGM. The WPQ Board meets monthly between September to March and every second month from April to August. The CEO and WPQ Office Staff manage the day to day affairs of the Association.

If you have an interest in the role of Secretary on the WPQ Board, please forward your EOI, stating your relevant skills and experience in the role of secretary, meetings and minute taking, administration and/or general committee governance, to the WPQ CEO, Melanie Woosnam ceo@waterpoloqld.com.au by COB Wednesday 14th April, 2021.

We ask that Associations and Clubs share this notification with their members.

Kind Regards,

Melanie Woosnam
