Water Polo Queensland announces Ric Willmot as CEO

The Board and staff of Water Polo Queensland are delighted to announce that Ric Willmot has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the organisation.
WPQ President, Scott Bishton, who chaired the Recruitment Panel said Ric was selected after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process.
“Ric is an outstanding choice, bringing a wealth of experience from both the corporate and not-for-profit sporting sector. The Board were delighted to attract someone with Ric’s level of enthusiasm and talent, who will lead our sport in this exciting time. The Board are confident that we have found someone who will lead the organisation with innovation, distinction, and integrity.”
Ric brings to WPQ significant experience and a proven track record in sport, most recently as General Manager of Southern Districts Basketball Association, one of Australia’s largest and strongest semi-professional basketball associations, overseeing significant growth in income, retained earnings, and membership, whilst improving organisational culture across the board.
Along with experience and achievements in various leadership roles, Ric has strong and robust relationships with all levels of government, corporate and community sectors, and a high level of energy, personal commitment, professionalism, and integrity.
Commenting on his appointment, Ric said “I’m excited to be given the opportunity to lead Water Polo Queensland during this incredibly exciting time for the sport in Queensland. I look forward to working with water polo’s passionate community to deliver our vision for the sport in a collaborative and transparent way.
There are several key priorities when I begin, including meeting our members and delivering on key strategic priorities for the remainder of the financial year. I’m looking forward to exploring how we can welcome more people into our sport, increase our commercial footprint and making water polo the sport of choice for Queenslanders.”
The Board are looking forward to beginning this new phase under Ric’s leadership. Ric will begin with WPQ on Monday, 19 December 2022.
