Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) is excited to announce the upcoming 2025 Referee Awards & Dinner, a special event dedicated to recognising the outstanding referees who contribute their time, skill, and passion to the sport of water polo across Queensland.

Nominations for all awards are now open! Anyone from the WPQ community—including registered members, clubs, schools, and regions—can nominate referees.

- Contribution to the development of Water Polo in Queensland
- Gives back to Water Polo in Queensland at a Community level
- Active involvement in the WPQ mentoring system

- Recognises excellence in refereeing and dedication to the PL/PLR
- Consistent high-quality performance throughout the PLR/PL

BMJC Referee of the Year
- Recognises promising referee who shows growth and commitment to improving their refereeing skills and the sport in the BMJC

- Consideration given to improvement and willingness to learn, understanding and application of the rules

Regional Referee of the Year

- Referee must be in their first season of refereeing in competition in Queensland

- Consideration given to improvement and willingness to learn, understanding and application of the rules

- Active involved in WPQ referee education and workshops

Rising Star - Development Referee of the Year
- Referee must be in at least their second year of refereeing competition in Queensland
- Recognises promising referee who shows growth and commitment to improving their refereeing skills and the sport
- Consistent improvement throughout the season with harder water polo games
- Positive conduct and communication with players and coaches
- Consideration given to improvement and willingness to learn, understanding and application of the rules
- Positive attitude and receptiveness to feedback
- Active involved in WPQ referee education and workshops

High Performance Referee of the Year
- Referee must be in at least their fifth year of refereeing competition in Australia or their country of Origin, with at least two years of refereeing in Queensland
- Referee must be accredited as an Advanced or Elite referee with WPA
- Recognises excellence in refereeing and dedication to the sport
- Consistent high-quality performance throughout the season at all grades refereed
- Demonstration of excellent rule knowledge and application
- Professional conduct and communication with players and coaches
- Positive attitude and receptiveness to feedback
- Contribution to the development of water polo in Qld
- Active involvement in the WPQ mentoring system
- Active involvement in WPQ referee education and workshops
- Involvement in refereeing / delegating at other events in Australia or
- Internationally such as AYC, NSC, AWL, Australian Countries and any International competition

WPQ State Titles - Encouragement Award
- Referee must be refereeing in their first WPQ State Titles
- Referee must be under 18
- Recognises promising referee who shows growth and commitment to improving their refereeing skills and the sport
- Demonstration of good rule knowledge and application
- Consideration given to improvement and willingness to learn, understanding and application of the rules
- Good conduct and communication with players and coaches
- Positive attitude and receptiveness to feedback
- Actively seeks opportunities in other aspects of the WPQ State Titles such as workshops, informal conversations with mentors and watching senior referees to name a few

- Referee must be refereeing in at least their second WPQ State Titles
- Recognises promising referee who shows growth and commitment to improving their refereeing skills and the sport.
