Published Tue 20 Dec 2022

Water Polo Queensland has honoured four long-serving members of the sport with life membership following the Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, 30 November.

Peter Bagster, Paul Coolican, Phil Howden and Toni Jepson, all received recognition for their passion and long service to water polo - as players, coaches, referees and mentors.

Phil Howden

(Tugun/Barracudas/UQ Barracudas)

Phil's committed to water polo spans international borders, having represented Great Britain during the 1970s. He has played and coached Queensland representative teams and continues to be seen around the pool deck supporting the next generation of athletes.

Toni Jepson

(Rockhampton)

A long serving volunteer and champion for water polo in Rockhampton, Toni has overseen the growth of the sport in the region for more than 30 years, providing pathways and opportunities for athletes, referees and coaches at local, regional and state levels. Toni's tireless commitment to Rockhampton and regional water polo has ensured a regional voice at the table.

Paul Coolican

(Sunshine Coast)

Paul's long involvement with Sunshine Coast water polo has helped see the region not only grow in numbers but also in infrastructure and international standard equipment. As a player, coach and referee, Paul has helped provided opportunities for youngsters across the region to participate in water polo.

Peter Bagster

(River City)

As a player, coach, referee, and mentor, Peter has been a committed and selfless volunteer to water polo. For more than 25 years, Peter has supported Rivercity as committee member and Head Coach, overseeing the growth of the club to one of Brisbane's premier clubs.

Congratulations to these selfless volunteers for their individual recognition, and thank you for being great servants to our sport.

Each of the Life Members will be presented with their plaques throughout the upcoming events season.
