Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) today announced a strategic alliance with Academy Water Polo that supports the organisation’s vision to take the game to more people and more communities across Queensland.

Founded by Simon Daley in partnership with current Aussie Sharks captain and triple Olympian Rhys Howden and leading sport and recreation company Just Sport and Fitness, Academy Water Polo specialises in delivering Water Polo programs for children aged 6-18 years that focus on skill development and performance in a fun and safe environment.

The alliance will see Academy Water Polo support WPQ’s participation growth strategies by delivering introductory and skill development programs and clinics based at Brisbane’s iconic Valley Pool as well as support WPQ’s Regional Training Centres (RTC) and State team programs.

Water Polo Queensland CEO Robert Donaghue said: “We are excited to be working with Academy Water Polo on our shared ambition to introduce more Queenslanders to our great game and in supporting the ongoing development of our young athletes.”

“The alliance ensures the resources and expertise of both organisations are working together to deliver on our ambitious growth targets and in providing the best possible environment for players to learn and improve their skills and understanding of the game.”

The Valley Pool will host Academy Water Polo’s Easter School Holiday Camp from 4th – 7th April featuring international players Rhys Howden, Gaetano Zuccoli and current Aussie Stingers captain and WPQ Development Officer, Bronwen Knox.

Founder Simon Daley said: Academy Water Polo is excited by the opportunity to form an alliance with Water Polo Queensland and work closely on initiatives to bring the next generation of participants into our sport. We also have an outstanding facility at the Valley Pool and a relationship with Just Sport and Fitness that is committed with us to providing access to more opportunities to experience Water Polo”.
