Water Polo Queensland and 6-8 Sports Partner to Bring World-Class Analytics to Australian Water Polo

Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) has announced a new partnership with global water polo analytics leader 6-8 Sports, co-founded by Olympians Tony Azevedo and Maggie Steffens, bringing cutting-edge performance technology to water polo in Queensland.

Under the unique partnership, WPQ will pilot 6-8 Sports’ Game Desk live-scoring and analytics platform at the 2025 WPQ Junior Country Championships, before rolling it out at the 2026 WPQ State Titles, featuring 148 junior teams, including interstate and New Zealand athletes and teams.

WPQ will also host the 6-8 Challenge; an international skill-testing and performance benchmarking program on the rest day of the State Titles. The Challenge allows athletes to complete a series of physical and technical tests that feed into their personal “6-8 number,” giving them a tangible measurement of progress and potential.

“This partnership represents a leap forward in how we support and identify talent,” said Mr. Ric Willmot, CEO of Water Polo Queensland. “It’s not just live scoring; it’s building athlete pathways using real-time data, empowering coaches, and connecting our Queensland athletes to a global platform.”

6-8 Sports Co-Founders Tony Azevedo and Maggie Steffens said they were excited to partner with WPQ.

As part of the rollout, WPQ has also appointed Australian representative and Olympic Silver Medallist, Charlize Andrews as the official WPQ 6-8 Ambassador, helping promote the initiative among young athletes statewide.
