Queensland leading the way in supporting Clubs through Government-funded Game Plan

Volunteers are undoubtedly the backbone of grass roots sports. On any given weekend you will find volunteers organising teams, administrating behind the scenes and doing everything they can to help their club and sport succeed.

Water Polo Queensland Inc. have proudly partnered with Sports Community, Water Polo Australia and Sports Australia to work with Club committees to implement Game Plan – an online tool to help Clubs identify their current level of capability and work with their volunteers to provide the skills and resources to enable them to be successful in an ever-changing sporting environment.

Sport Australia’s Game Plan, is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Active Industry Project Fund andis a free online tool that allows clubs to conduct a ‘health check’ to identify key areas for club development and put in place projects and resources to help your Club reach its full potential. These health checks that each club completes will then aid Sports Community in producing a suite of sport-specific resources for water polo clubs across Queensland as well as a customised operational and revenue plan for your Club

When speaking about the Government-funded program, Steve Pallas - CEO of Sports Community and a key stakeholder in the project said he “was pleased to be involved in the project”. When discussing the potential impacts this has for clubs at a grass roots level, Pallas said “We love what we do – from helping small clubs thrive, to working state governments to provide resources across the state. Helping people is what we do best and by equipping them with the tools they need, we help clubs grow.”

Queensland will be the first state in Australia to launch this initiative and when discussing the project, CEO Melanie Woosnam said “We are incredibly excited to be partnering in the roll-out of this project in collaboration with Sports Community, Water Polo Australia and Sports Australia. This program will enable us to develop water polo specific resources that will ultimately enhance the support we can provide to our clubs moving forwards. None of this would be possible however without the support of the Queensland Government and the Active Industry Project Alliance, and we sincerely thank them for their investment in community sport”.

If you’re a Club, during the coming weeks, a staff member from either Water Polo Queensland or Sports Community will be making contact with you to provide more information on the project itself, explain the key milestones and engagement points and outline the steps to provide your Club/Association with enhanced support, development and resources to build your capability and capacity.

If you’re a volunteer, keep your eyes peeled – we can’t wait to have you involved!
