Water Polo Queensland's All Schools tournament starts this Saturday and it's shaping up to be a massive three days of water polo. This year marks WPQ’s biggest Queensland All Schools tournament yet, with over 45 teams and over 450 athletes competing across 5 divisions to claim the title of Queensland’s All Schools Champions.

This tournament brings together players from schools across Queensland and Interstate. Spread across three venues, the tournament will feature a packed schedule of games designed to foster development, challenge abilities, and celebrate teamwork.

Now for a closer look at the divisions and the teams to watch:

Open School Girls (Grade 10 – 12):

The Open School Girls will feature the highest level of female water pool school talent, spread across the 9 teams in the division, split into two groups. Group A start their tournament at Somerville, while Group B battle it out at St Margaret’s.

Day 2 sees the groups come together for the final rounds and then take to the pool for Play-Offs and Semi Finals at All Hallows. The final day of the tournament sees the Medal matches take place at Somerville, while the battle for final placements being hosted at All Hallows.

Team To Watch: 

After a thrilling Gold Medal Match against All Hallows in 2024, St Margaret’s AGS will be the team to watch for the Open School Girls division as they push to go back-to-back and claim the 2025 Queensland All Schools Champion title for the division.

Open School Boys (Grade 10 – 12):

The six teams in the Open School Boys division are ready to showcase the highest level of male water pool school talent and will spend the three-day tournament in the pool at Somerville.

Team To Watch:

2024 saw Brisbane State High School be crowned the Queensland All Schools Champion for the Open School Boys after they defeated Sunshine Coast Schools Water Polo Association in the Gold Medal Match. With both these teams not nominating a team for the 2025 tournament, the Champion title could go to any one of the six teams.

Middle School Girls (Grade 7 – 9):

The Middle School Girls division is WPQ’s biggest division of the tournament, with 16 teams taking to the pool across the three days. The teams are evenly spread across four groups, with Groups A and B playing out of St Margaret’s, while Group C and D start their day at All Hallows and travel across to St Margaret’s to play their last rounds for the tournament.

The division regroups on Day 2 with all 4 groups playing out of All Hallows in their Qualifying Finals, Play-off Semi Finals and Semi Final matches. The final day of the tournament sees the divisions’ medal match games being played at Somerville, while the final placement games are being held at All Hallows.

Team To Watch:

The All Hallows Blue team will be the team to beat in the 2025 tournament, after their win against St Margaret’s Orange in last year’s Gold Medal Match. They will be up against St Rita’s Yellow, Brisbane Girls Grammar White and Trinity Lutheran College as they battle it out in Group A for a spot in this year’s finals matches.

Middle School Boys (Grades 7 – 9):

The Middle School Boys division, while consisting of 9 teams, have the most Barbarian teams, adding an element of surprise to the competition. Barbarian teams consist of a variety of players from schools that did not nominate to have their own team. The players will come together for the tournament and have showcase another level of teamwork and mateship, while adding their own flare to the tournament.

The division is split into two groups, with Group A and Group B playing all their games out at Somerville.

Teams To Watch:

St Laurence’s College return to the pool this year to defend their title in the Middle School Boys division. They will battle it out in Group A for their spot in finals, coming up against Barbarians Maroon, Trinity Lutheran College, Sunshine Coast Grammer and St Peters Lutheran College.

Junior School Girls (Grades 5 – 6) – New Additions:

This marks the inaugural year of the Junior School Girls division competing at Queensland All Schools and consist of 6 teams who are eager to show us what they’ve got as they start their tournament off at All Hallows. Day 2 sees them battle it out at Somerville in their last round games, Cross Over matches and Semi Finals.

The final day of the tournament sees the division’s medal matches and final placement games be played at Somerville, where the top two teams will battle it out to make history and be crowned the first Queensland All Schools Champions in the Junior Girls Division.
