Aleks Osadchuk new WPQ Head of Performance and Pathways

On behalf of Water Polo Queensland Inc. (WPQ), we are delighted to announce that Aleks Osadchuk has been appointed as the new WPQ Head of Performance and Pathways. This newly appointed role has been created through a partnership arrangement between Water Polo Australia, the Queensland Thunder and WPQ.

Aleks comes to the role with a wealth of skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge in both high performance water polo as well as sports administration, coaching and playing. Aleks has a Bachelor in Human Movement, a Diploma in Sports Coaching and is a current Advanced Level Water Polo Coach. He has also completed a number of professional development programs with the AIS in project management, coaching and leadership. As the former High Performance Director of Water Polo Australia, High Performance Manager of QAS and QAS Women’s Head Coach, Aleks has an acute understanding of performance sport, pathways and development which will be essential to the role. Aleks is a former Olympian who represented Australia at the 2004 Athens Olympics as well as being a former National player for the Ukraine and Soviet Union. His coaching experience at National and State level is extensive and Aleks has received numerous awards and recognition through WPA and the QAS as a former WPA and QAS Coach of the Year, QAS Program of the Year (Head Coach) on two occasions as well as being a member of the WPQ Hall of Fame.

 

As the Head of Performance & Pathways, Aleks will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of the Performance and Pathway Framework for water polo in Queensland. This will involve oversight of the planning and development of performance and pathway programs for athletes and coaches, overseeing the WPQ Men’s Performance Program and representative programs and building the performance capability of athletes, coaches and Clubs and Associations across the State.

A key part of the role will include being Men's Performance Coach and Head Coach of the Qld Thunder Men's AWL program, which is the pinnacle for male players within Queensland. Aleks will also oversee the coaching and development of all Nationally categorised male athletes in Queensland (most of whom will be in the Qld Thunder Squad) as well as developing emerging athletes and coaches. With oversight from the newly formed WPQ Development, Pathway and Selection Committee, Aleks will manage the WPQ State Team program and WPQ Talent Development and Pathway programs, including regional areas. This will involve overseeing the WPQ Development Officers and establishing annual workplans for each region that is consistent with the WPQ Strategic priorities.

WPQ welcomes Aleks to this new role and we look forward to the strong leadership and expertise that Aleks will bring to the establishment of a more formalised WPQ Performance and Pathway framework.
