2023 All Schools Water Polo Tournament

Published Mon 06 Nov 2023

The 2023 Queensland All Schools Water Polo Tournament was a remarkable showcase of teamwork, skill, and determination, uniting student-athletes from across Brisbane and the region.

This year's tournament, hosted at the Fortitude Valley Pool, Musgrave Pool, and Yeronga Pool, featured teams from various schools competing in Middle school and open divisions in both boys' and girls’. Over 440 athletes from 40 teams competed in this year’s tournament with athletes traveling from the Sunshine Coast, Warick, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, and some interstate players from NSW.

A notable highlight of this year's tournament was the exceptionally high level of competition, resulting in nail-biting matches that had spectators on the edge of their seats. The players' remarkable abilities were on full display, evident in their spectacular goals, agile saves, and impressive teamwork.

The finals, in both boys' and girls' divisions, were particularly captivating. In the middle schools' boys' division, St Andrews and Trinity Lutheran College engaged in a fiercely contested match that concluded with a penalty shootout and St Andrews securing the championship title. The open boys' final witnessed a thrilling match between Marist College and Sunshine Coast Grammar, with Marist College clinching the title, thanks in part to a crucial save by their goalkeeper.

The open girls' final was equally enthralling, featuring a hard-fought battle between All Hallows Blue and Loreto College, ultimately won by All Hallows. In the middle school girls' division, St Margarets took on the Barbarian Maroon, leading the game with a 3-goal advantage.

As the tournament is now drawn to a close, we would like to thank all of the parents, administrators, referees, volunteers, and coaches for your involvement in this event.

To our dedicated coaches, you played an essential role in shaping and nurturing young athletes, helping them to develop their skills, and guiding them towards success. To the referees thank you for fair play and your ability to uphold the integrity of the game, your expertise and impartiality were vital in creating a competitive yet respectful atmosphere. And to our amazing volunteers, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, managing logistics, providing support, and ensuring the event ran smoothly, your selflessness and dedication did not go unnoticed.

The 2023 Queensland All-Schools Water Polo Tournament continues to be a source of inspiration for the next generation of athletes, and we eagerly anticipate even greater success in the years to come. We look forward to hosting this event in 2024 hopefully to come back bigger and better. Keep an eye out for communication for future events.
