Making a splash in Cairns

Our goal is to take water polo to more communities across Queensland and over the past couple of months we’ve been travelling to Cairns to get the sport back up and running. The response has been fantastic and inspired Jesse O’Hara to help re-establish water polo in Far North Queensland.

Water Polo Queensland Board appoints Diversity & Marketing Officer

Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) is delighted to announce that Jeremy Archer has been appointed to the role of Diversity & Marketing Officer on the WPQ Board. The role is the first of its kind within the water polo community in Australia and WPQ is one of only a handful of sporting organisations in the country to have a specific diversity board role.

2017 BWPI Summer Competition underway

Making waves last weekend, the junior and senior summer BWPI competitions commenced for the 2017/18 season.  Spread across six venues, Round One saw a monstrous two hundred and twenty-three teams make a splash across twenty-seven competition divisions.

OLYMPIAN ASHLEIGH SOUTHERN ANNOUNCES 2018 QUEENSLAND COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HOSTED IN TOWNSVILLE

Townsville local and two-time Olympian, Ashleigh Southern, today announced that Townsville will host the 2018 Queensland Country Championships. Hosted by Water Polo Queensland in partnership with the Townsville Water Polo Association, the city will welcome teams from across regional Queensland to Long Tan Memorial Park Pool from 9th to 11th February 2018.

TOP HONOURS FOR QUEENSLAND REFEREES AT SYDNEY WATER POLO YOUTH FESTIVAL

Alongside the 149 athletes who competed at the Sydney Water Polo Youth Festival, three Queensland referees were also poolside gaining invaluable experience during the international tournament. We caught up with Stevie Yule, Bella Andersson, and Dan Esperon to find out more about their refereeing careers and how the Sydney Water Polo Youth Festival has helped them develop as referees.

Next stop Estonia

For Nick Newton, it was a last minute decision to enter into the Pierre de Coubertin Award but it was a decision that will now see him travel to Estonia for the Pierre de Coubertin International Youth Forum in August. The week long global youth forum is an opportunity for young athletes to learn about different cultures and the spirit of the Olympic Movement.
