Changes from WPA to the National Water Polo Competition

Water Polo QLD is sharing some updates regarding the upcoming changes in the competition structure for the 2024-2025 season. Water Polo Australia have refined the delivery of the National State Championships, aligning it with their overarching national competition calendar and pathway programs.

National State Championships

The 15&U and 17&U Men’s and Women’s National State Championships will now take place concurrently, at the same venue, from the 26th to the 30th of September 2024 at the Gold Coast.

This event will see one team per division compete for the National State Championship Title and offer Nationally Identified athletes the opportunity to be selected for the Water Polo Australia National Age Group Program.

Additionally, the 19&U National State Championships will undergo a transformation, transitioning into a Talent Identification Camp. Further details regarding dates, venues, and registration processes, will be shared once WPQ is notified by WPA.

Australian Youth Water Polo Championships

Water Polo Australia will soon unveil new dates for the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships for 2025. We eagerly anticipate confirming these details once WPQ is notified by WPA, so keep an eye out for the official announcement.

Development and Performance Programs

At WPQ, we understand the importance of meeting the development needs of our athletes. We are reviewing the development opportunities of athletes and working to create a Performance Program that integrates with the National Framework.

In coming weeks, we will plan our 2024-2025 Development and Performance Programs for the 15&U and 17&U age groups. Our goal is to ensure that our programs continue to provide valuable opportunities for growth and advancement within the sport for all members and Stakeholders.
