It is with considerable sadness we advise members of the passing of Leo Williams.
Leo played a prominent role in Queensland Water Polo throughout the 1950s and 1960s era representing Queensland in 1964, 1965 and again in 1966 for which he was also the State Coach.
An accomplished sportsman Leo also presented as a front row for Queensland Rugby Union XV from 1962 thru 1965, a sport in which he later rose to become President of the QRU in the late 1980s and also Chairman of the Australian Rugby Union from 1994 thru 1996. His other sporting passion was Racing where he served as President of the Tattersall’s Club and chaired the Racing Appeals Tribunal.
With Bachelor degrees in both Arts and Law from the University of Queensland Leo also achieved distinction in the worlds of Law and Business culminating in him being made an Officer of the Order Of Australia.
Life member and former QAWPA Secretary, Robert Wiles said “ Leo was a very strong man who loved water polo in his younger days, who played hard - sometimes causing Brisbane Referees and Judiciaries some bother !!”
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to his wife Nancye and family. |
