The 16 and Under State Championships will be held on the 2nd - 4th May 2009 at the Nambour and Noosa swimming pools. Teams nominations have been called for by a circular which was sent to all clubs on the 24th February (a copy of the circular is attached). Once team nominations have been received pool allocations will be made along with a draw for the competition.
Championship Circular
This year the Sunshine Coast as the host Association is looking to put on a social function for all teams on the Saturday night at the Nambour pool. Entry will cost between $15-$20 per person and will be catered by the Spit Roast Catering Company. It will feature a 3 course meal of an appertizer, roast dinner and a choice of 3 deserts. The Sunshine Coast Association will require numbers prior to the event and numbers are required by the caterers.
16 and Under State Teams
Last year Australian Water Polo changed their player pathways structure which incorporates their National Championships and National Club Championships. One of the major changes to this structure was to change the 16 and Under National Championships to a National Club Championships for this age group.
As a consequence of this change Queensland has decided to maintain a State program for this age group and search for a competition which the State players can compete in. A result of this was to establish the Trans Tasman Cup with New Zealand Water Polo whereby our 16 and Under State Teams will compete against the New Zealand 15 and Under National Teams. Last year New Zealand brought their female teams to Brisbane for the inaugural test series so this year Queensland will take their male and female teams to New Zealand to compete in a 3 game test series. In addition to the test series New Zealand Water Polo have also organised an U18 competition for our teams to play in.
Whilst final details of the New Zealand trip are being organised the proposed tour is planned to depart Brisbane on the 5th of July and returning to Brisbane on the 12th July (this period is during the school holidays). The test series will be played on the 6th – 8th and the U18 competition on the 9th – 11th. Finals costs and details of the tour (including air travel, accommodation and any inclusion) will be forward as soon as they are known.
It is anticipated that the cost of the trip will be approximately $2000 so please distribute this information to all your players competing at the State Championships to help them decide whether to make themselves available for selection at the State Championships.
