Trans Tasman Challenge Cup @ All Hallows Pool
7th October: The main event happened last night with the Trans Tasman Challenge Cups on offer to the winners of the A and B divisions. In the first game of the night the Queensland White team narrowly were defeated by the NZ cadets B team 5-4. The white team fought back from a 4-2 deficit at 3 quarter time but left their run a little late.
In the second game the Queensland maroons were too strong for the NZ Cadets A team defeating them 9-5. The Queensland team led at every break (2-1, 4-1, 7-3, 9-5). Ashleigh Southern scored 4 goals for the Maroons while Rebecca parkes top scored for the New Zealand team with 2 goals.
A big thank you to Andrew Carney, Brad Griffith, Janita Johnson and Aleshea Geary (NZ) for the refereeing of all the games. Another big thank you to Jon Lucas and Elliott Lucas for their assistance on the table and goal judging each night.
We now look forward to a return match in New Zealand next year to try and retain the A cup and win back the B cup.
6th October: The 14 and Under Qld team bounced back tonight holding New Zealand to a 4-4 draw. Qld held a 3-1 lead going into the 4th quarter but the cadets fought back hard to level the game with 9 seconds remaining. In the second game the EAP were taken by surprise with the Cadets A team holding them scoreless in the first quarter. The Cadets showed more determination as the game wore on and led at each break before running out eventual winners 6-4.
5th October: The cadets B team got off to a good start against the Qld 14 and Under team winning 5-0. The Queensland girls struggled at the start considering most had not played any games since the east Coast Challenge in July. In the second game the Emerging Athletes Program proved much too strong for the Cadets A team defeating them 10-3, Jamie lee Lewis top the scoring with 4 goals for the EAP.
The New Zealand U15 Cadets girls A and B squads have started their training camp in Brisbane at the All Hallows Pool. The cadets arrived Friday and will play games against the Queensland 14 and under team, the Emerging Athletes Program and the 16 and under State Teams upon their return from Perth.
